Seeking Protection

A blog exploring what we can learn from the experiences of refugees before, during and after the Holocaust – for today

About this blog

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance unites governments and experts to shape and advance Holocaust education, remembrance and research world-wide, to speak out on Holocaust related issues including antisemitism, and to uphold the commitments of the 2000 Stockholm Declaration.

Seeking Protection is a blog that explores how our knowledge of the refugee situation before, during and after the Holocaust can be relevant for understanding the current refugee situation. This blog aims to serve as a resource centre for educators and as a platform for guest bloggers to reflect on the topic of refugees.

Raising awareness, sparking discussion, improving knowledge, building expertise, and sharing experiences are all equally important goals of this blog. We present relevant educational materials and best practices, articles, and opinion pieces that we believe can help us reach these goals. We also ask you to share your expertise and experiences with us. We are building this blog together, so we also need your input.

“We have the obligation to use our expertise to raise awareness of the consequences of tolerating an atmosphere of fear and hate and of restricting the acceptance of refugees. Especially when the standards of national and international law – developed on the basis of painful historical experiences – are being violated.” – Wolf Kaiser
